The Run Albion 5K races and series have been going on for numerous years. The organization has blossomed into an annual 5K series including the Run the Rock in the spring, the History Hustle in the summer, and the Forks 5K the Friday night of the Festival of the Forks in September. It ventures runners and walkers through the beautiful streets of downtown, curves through Albion College’s campus, and takes participants on just a piece of the great nature trails we have in town. But is it just a 5K series?
No, not really. With the sponsors that Run Albion has the costs itself of the race is covered, so the registration fee is used not for the costs, but for donations to local non-profits. During every race you may see different people or organizations manning the water stations or directing the paths, these course volunteers receive donations to the participating non-profit. Volunteer groups have included Albion’s Big Read, Citizen’s to Beautify Albion, and the local Scout Troops. The support that the different volunteer non-profit organizations receive from Run Albion helps with organizational expenses and projects going on. So Run Albion is more than just a race, it is support to the Albion community.
