The Impact of Scholarships – The 2025 Dan & Linda Ohmer Scholarship Recipient

Post-secondary educations can be expensive. From room and board, meal plans, tuition and books, the final bill can add up quickly. To help offset debt and cost barriers most students apply for local, state, and national scholarships. Each scholarship is different with various eligibilities and requirements.

Focusing on local impacts, the Albion Community Foundation has a few donor-established scholarships supporting Albion area students. One of the newest scholarships was established by Dan and Linda Ohmer to support individual who reside within the greater Albion area and/or graduate from Marshall High School who are seeking educational opportunities beyond high school. This scholarship is established to support students admitted to Ferris State University or Adrian College.

Landen Burger was the first recipient of the Dan and Linda Ohmer Scholarship in 2025! Landen is a first-year student attending Adrian College, majoring in Business Administration and minoring in Entrepreneurial Studies. Growing up, Landen enjoyed working with his hands and saw the benefits of manual labor as his dad works in construction and grandfather in farming. Laden is pursuing a business degree with goal of working in renovation real estate. Throughout high school, he had the opportunity to work within the construction and home renovations sector, discovering his future career path.

Currently, Landen is a member of the Adrian football team and enjoys being able to explore a new community. He has already learned the benefit of networking as he has been connecting with coaches, professors, and peers.

Landen shared that the Dan and Linda Ohmer Scholarship has supported his secondary education by lessening the burden of debt. Secondary education expenses can add up, but so can scholarship opportunities!
