The Albion District Library: A Community Space

The Albion District Library is growing with the events they are offering. I had the chance to chat with Andy Myers, the current Head of Public Services at the library, about his role and the excitement that he is bringing to the table.

Originally from Jackson, Myers has always held a love for libraries. Although it took Myers a few years to get involved in library work, his passion for connecting with people and education has always been there. He loves that libraries can hold the heart of the community through programming, togetherness, and information.

Myers has been the Head of Public Services for about a year, and in his role, he gives a sense of direction to the programming and public services available at the library. He does this through working with local partnerships, creating themed programs, and supporting the interests of the community.

This support branches beyond reading and literacy. Myers wants the public to know that the library is here for all types of support. From resume assistance, technology help, crafting resources, or merely in need of social gatherings, the library can help. Current programs at the Albion District Library include story time in the Children’s Room, Pop-In Craft Tuesdays, Euchre Nights, and Brown Bag Documentary Series. And in Myers field of interest, Intro to Dungeons and Dragons! Myers’ biggest goal is to provide a gathering space for the community to explore their interests new or established. There are programs with subject matter experts, expansions into sustainability programs, you name it the library will try to provide it.

Whether you are looking for a traditional library experience or a community gathering space, the Albion District Library is providing both. And the great thing about the library is it’s free and accessible! The barriers for support are minimal as some of the programs do not require a library card.

As Myers stated, “we want to empower people with the knowledge of what is happening around them, and the resources available to them.”
