Men Who Cook – Grab a Plate and Help Make Albion Beautiful

Are you looking to have a hearty meal before kickoff on Superbowl Sunday, or just craving some delicious dishes and quality time with the Albion community?

On Sunday, February 9th, Citizens to Beautify Albion is hosting the 38th annual Men Who Cook, a community event second only to the Festival of the Forks. In previous years, over 100 men from the Albion community have brought a signature dish, or something new and creative to share, from their home kitchen or restaurant.

Although it is a fundraiser, the intention is to celebrate the community’s connection, which is, as your plate will be, overflowing.

“Everybody looks forward to it,” Juanita Solis-Kidder, one of the organizers of the event, said proudly. With so many dishes, there is certainly something for everyone– from classics such as mashed potatoes and mac n’ cheese to novel takes on barbecue. Juanita shared the only complaint so far: “Halfway down the line, I don’t have any more room on my plate!”

Food will be served from 12:30PM-2PM at First Baptist Church. Tickets, which are a direct donation to Citizens to Beautify Albion’s cause, can be purchased ahead of time or at the door, starting at $6.

Citizens to Beautify Albion, the organization behind Men Who Cook is incredibly tight knit in their pursuit of making Albion beautiful. The nonprofit has been dedicated to tending to the landscape of Albion for more than 30 years and has recently expanded their mission statement to encompass not just the gardens and parks, but all aspects of Albion’s beauty. The group is excited about the potential of new projects throughout the community.

Attending Men Who Cook is a fantastic way to support their efforts. The proceeds will go towards the materials and supplies needed to keep Albion looking its best. Citizens to Beautify Albion is always happy to have volunteers and new additions to the cause- “You don’t have to ask to pull weeds [or water]: help yourself!” Meetings are held as needed; For more information, Juanita is happy to be contacted by call or text at (517) 630-1681.
