Kadéngen Co-Laboratory

A free summer program that braids lessons from history, nature, and science in our two locations. Youth from the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi (NHBP) and Albion communities will visit each location on alternating days for a shared field and laboratory learning experience.

WHAT WE’LL DO TOGETHER

● OBSERVE NATURE: Learn about mnomen (wild rice), the tiny river creatures (macroinvertebrates) who live in the water, and how they are part of a healthy ecosystem.

● CONNECT WITH HISTORY: View 1,500 year-old tools made by Anishinaabe ancestors. Assemble a tool yourself that will help Albion and NHBP researchers study the relationship between mnomen and macroinvertebrates.

● BRAID OUR KNOWLEDGE: See how Indigenous and Western methods work together to grow our understanding of history and nature, so we can preserve them better together.

Ages 3–10 (accompanied by a grownup)

Ages 11–24 (with permission, if under 18)
